| Probably the most famous of all RAF airfields, former 1943 home to 617
Squadron, The Dambusters and now home to the RAF Aerobatic Team, The Red Arrows.
Scampton is recreated by Team SDB using photoreal textures throughout taken on a
visit to the base. All the buildings and scenery objects are unique and were
created for Scampton and placed using information supplied by the RAFAT
Adjutant.
The scenery reflects Scampton as it was at the time of our visit in Aug 2008.
That of an icon of the Royal Air Force facing an uncertain future as an
operational airfield and in a state of semi Care & Maintenance with the
possibility of the Red Arrows moving to another base. As the tower is unmanned
at night ( the Reds don't perform in the dark!) the airfield is closed to night
flying and the airfield taxiway lighting and floodlights although in working
order are not used. The runway lighting only being switched on once a year to
allow the team to keep their night flying current. Street lighting is used but
most of the buildings being empty are unlit. Based on information supplied.
On the east side of the base are 4 C type hangars with the technical site
behind. All the main buildings on the tech site are modelled including the
Airmen's Mess where Operation Chastise ( the dams raid) was planned. On the
airside of No.2 Hangar can be found the well tended grave of Wing Commander Guy
Gibson's black Labrador dog. further west between the hangars and the runway are
the tower, fire station and the old Electrical Section. To the south are the old
Operations Section and animated radar antena.
The scenery utilizes the MAIW BAe Hawk by Nick Black ( NOT INCLUDED), using
textures by Frank Safranek (supplied). Full instructions for downloading and
installing the Hawk are included.
The AI Hawker Hunter (included) at Hawker Hunter Aviation across the field is by
Daniel Dunn of Firebug Studios.
Red Arrows Kias and various bowsers and tugs are dotted around the base.
Features include:-
Runway lighting.
Street lighting.
Full perimeter fencing.
NDB and ILS.
Animated radar. For FS2004. |
