FSX European & UK Ports UTX - Volume 1: The Port of Málaga

The Port of Málaga is the first volume in a series of 'European & UK Ports UTX' addon scenery developed by FlightSem Software (FSS) specifically for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. The scenery is intended to be used with Microsoft FSX Acceleration Expansion Pack and Flight 1 Ultimate Terrain X (Europe) software upgrades, with optional, but recommended, Ground Environment X (Europe) software support. A high specification computer system (core i7 or i5) is a pre-requisite for smooth operation of this scenery.

The Port depicts well know landmarks including
  • Paseo de los Curas (Pedestrian quay-walkway with miniature gardens)
  • Paseo del Parque (Palm tree lined gardens and park)
  • Castillo de Gibralfaro (Gibralfaro Castle)
  • Alcazaba (Palace-Fortress)
  • Port Authority Building
  • Autoridad Portuari de Malaga (Autorida Hotel)
  • Plaza de la Marine (Autorida fountain)
  • Dique de Levante (Port harbor wall)
  • La Farola (Port Lighthouse)
  • Surrounding high-rise buildings
  • Navio Saritisma Trinadad (replica galleon restaurant/nightclub)
  • Buque Escuela Dewaruci (3-mast training ship)
  • Local Marina and yachts
  • Reclaimed container dock (Quay 9) - supports landing of helicopter
  • Container ships, oil tankers and fishing boats
  • Cruise liners (regular/costumed ships, including Queen Mary 2)
  • Ocean Cruise Terminal and passengers
  • Custom scheduled AI-objects (Cruise liner Azura, ship's tender, fishing trawler, deluxe motor yacht and dock gantry)
  • Animated dolphins, figures and birds.
  • Firework displays and water fountains

Firework displays can be seen over the port on the 1st week of October and at mid-night on New Year's Eve. The pyrotechnics in October lasts some 20-30 minutes between the hours of 10:00 pm and 11:00 pm local time. The New Year's show starts at midnight, 31st December.

The 115,000 ton P&O cruise liner, Azura, can be seen cruising into Málaga Port around 9:30 am local time, anchoring off the Dique de Levante harbor wall. Azura sets sail just after 7:00 pm local time for the Spanish resort of Marbella. Before departing Azura's boilers fire-up, emitting a plume of black smoke, followed by two blasts on its ships horn.

A luxury motor yacht departs from the eastern shoreline of Banos del Carmen (Sol nieve y mar) every couple of hours arriving west of the city 20 minutes later.

Watch out for seagulls hovering around the fishing boats, wharf and harbor and for the dolphins and Orca Whales swimming off the Dique de Levante harbor wall. Although Málaga Port may not be absolutely 'true-to-life' in all respects, the scenery does try to maintain a balance between real and non-real virtual features, with good frame rates and LOD in mind. Of-the-shelf packages, such as VFR photographic scenery-Generation X and other commercial scenery upgrades (other than UTX and GEX Europe) have not been tested and therefore may not be compatible or function seamless with this FSS Software product.
