Glass Panel (modeled after the Cirrus Perspective G1000)

The vFlyteAir model of the Cirrus SR20 is equipped with avionics systems which resemble the look and feel of the real aircraft's "Perspective" system. "Perspective" is based on the Garmin G1000. According to Mario Donick, who created the glass panel system for the SR20, "Although we don't strive for a true simulation of the avionics, we took care for many details. Many features of the real Perspective G1000 system are modeled in the vFlyteAir version, but some are omitted or not implemented.

Here is a list of the features we think you will find very functional:"

The following features are available on the Primary Flight Display (PFD):
  • Artificial Horizon with high-resolution attitude indicator, flight director and roll scale
  • Speedtape with custom display of reference speeds
  • Altitude tape with custom vertical velocity indicator and minimums display
  • Enhanced HSI with turn indicator and three fully configurable bearing pointers for GPS, NAV1, NAV2 and ADF
  • Switchable inset windows for timer/references, minimums, wind, ADF, map, nearest airports, and flight plan
  • Cirrus-style top bar with power setting, frequencies and detailed GPS & autopilot information
On the Multi Function Display (MFD), the following features are available:
  • Engine information system with switchable trim status
  • Detailed system page with engine parameters, declutter mode, used fuel, remaining fuel, remaining range, remaining time, anti-ice & oxygen gauges, density altitude, temperatures, ISA deviation
  • Custom user interface for creating and editing flight plans (accessing X-Planes navdata and default FMC)
  • "Nearest" page for airports, navaids and related frequencies
  • Cirrus-style top bar with destination window, frequencies and GPS information
  • X-Plane default map with weather radar and traffic warnings with custom icons
  • Interactive checklists and user-definable charts
In addition to PFD and MFD specific features, the following system-wide specifics are worth mentioning:
  • X-Plane autopilot with ROL, HDG, NAV, APPR, ALT, V/S, IAS modes and detailed status information
  • Autopilot will automatically disengage below minimum conditions as stated in the Pilot Operating Handbook (underspeed, overspeed and altitude)
  • Custom calculations for ground speed, true airspeed, fuel & ranges, bearings and distances
  • Reversionary mode with engine information system and system summary (reacts on fuse & MFD failure)
On-Screen Pop-Up Menu:

From any view in the simulator, you may click the small gear icon at the bottom-left of the screen to control several features of the model, including:
  • Open/Close the pilot door, passenger door and cargo door
  • Hide/Show the static ground elements (wheel chocks and pitot tube cover). NOTE: The static ground elements will be automatically removed for you if the airplane is under way.
  • Add/Remove a copilot - NOTE: adding the copilot also increased the total payload weight of the airplane by 70 kgs (175 lbs)
  • Click the upper right of the on-screen menu to dismiss the menu
Other Notable Features:
  • Hypoxia is simulated at above 12,500 cabin altitude. The screen will begin to dim if you are flying above 12,500' MSL. Use the OXY switch on the lower center console to turn on oxygen supply and avoid hypoxia! Oxygen supply is simulated - you have approximately 3 1/2 hours of usable oxygen on board. The oxygen supply will begin to deplete slowly when the OXY switch is ON
  • Anti-Ice fluid is simulated - there are 3.5 gallons of anti-ice fluid available. The supply will deplete when anti-ice switch is ON
  • ICE lights are modeled - use the ICE light switch to inspect the wing leading edges for ice buildup at night
  • The Cirrus BRS parachute recovery system is modeled - click on the BRS handle on the cabin ceiling to deploy the parachute in case of emergency. NOTE: Engine should be OFF, and airspeed should be below 120 KTS when deploying the parachute!
  • Cirrus "Single Lever Throttle Control" is modeled - the SR20 automatically adjusts propeller speed through the use of the throttle lever. There is no separately-controlled propeller lever.
  • Customized HDR night lights - there are four dome lights inside the cockpit that will provide white flood lighting with HDR on in your rendering settings
  • Custom exterior lighting - all lights on the exterior (landing lights, strobe lights and navigation lights) are modeled using X-Plane parameterized lighting.
  • 10 Factory liveries provided - because Cirrus uses a special heat-resistant paint for their airplanes, the 10 liveries provided are based on Cirrus originals.
  • Custom sounds - try opening the passenger or pilot door while the engine is running!
  • Photo-realistic textures by Igor Kirilove - all textures are very hi-res (4K), providing a very realistic look
  • Fully animated model - all the details are in this model. Check out the door hinge mechanisms when you open and close the doors!
  • Super accurate 3D modeling - the model is extremely accurate in scale and dimensions.
  • Simulator volume control - use the right-side outer knob on the audio panel to adjust the sim volume. Engine sounds, propeller sounds, radio volume and other sounds will be adjusted
  • Steerable nose gear - for those without rudder pedal/toe brake hardware, the nose gear is steerable. In a future update, the nose gear steering operation will be selectable by the user
  • 3D-Effect propeller - the propeller spinning disc is modeled as a 3D object, with dimensional volume when viewed from the side
  • Rain and Ice window special effects - when you run into rain or icing conditions while flying, the windshield and windows will show raindrops or frost
  • Most fuses are functional - click on a fuse to disable the associated system, push the fuse back in to re-enable
  • Movable sun visors can be flipped up/down and rotated left/right
  • Documentation - an Avionics Manual, Tutorial and User's Manual are provided. To get the most from the vFlyteAir "G1000" glass panel system, please read the Avionics Manual!
New Features
  • Pop-Up Menu - New "View Selections" added to pop-up control menu (Tail Camera, Belly Camera, Right Wing Camera, Left Wing Camera, Roof Camera, and Center Console Camera). De-selecting a View automatically returns to the default pilot view.
  • Pop-Up Menu - New "Nose Gear Steers" toggle control added to pop-up menu to allow users to de-select nose gear steering. This allows users with rudder pedals and toe brakes to steer the SR20 via toe brake control, as is the case with the real Cirrus SR20. "Nose Gear Steers" is ON by default, and can be turned OFF with this option.
  • Interior engine sounds can now be controlled using the X-Plane Sounds/Engine Sounds volume control.
  • Interior engine sounds improved for more realism.
  • A new set of "low-res" textures are available for users with older or lower-performing computers (to help improve frame rates for those users)

New Features
  • New engine and propeller modelling by Alan Shafto / AeroSimGaming:
    • Engine Handling - The SR20 has a single lever power control that manages both propeller control and throttle. Alan reverse-engineered the throttle quadrant from the aircraft maintenance manual to convert into numbers so we could custom code the propeller control. So now the aircraft will maintain a 2500RPM cruise regardless of the power setting from 40% power up to 85% (Depending on density altitude).
    • Propeller Modelling - Propeller modeled as a Hartzell Scimitar composite propeller. Custom airfoils were used to recreate the correct propeller control at high altitude and low alt
    • Engine Modelling - The Continental IO-360-ES; Engine horsepower output and fuel burn modeled directly from Continental Maintenance and Operation Manual. All operation and limitation data modeled directly from the manufacturer with help from Cirrus Owners and Pilots (the actual list of changes to oil pressure, temp etc would be to huge to include here)
  • Improvements to overall aerodynamics by Alan Shafto / AeroSimGaming:
    • Wing airfoils custom created from Roncz Laminar Flow airfoils. Modeled to perform slightly differently at low altitude to high altitude, when cruising at 10,000 feet the aircraft will feel different when hand flying to low alt.
    • Wing surface areas and sizes slightly adjusted
    • Fuselage lift modeled - aircraft's fuselage has a little bit of residual lift at high angles of attack
    • Flight Control deflections modeled off the aircraft
    • Flight Control loading modeled
    • Drag reduced of fuselage and wheel pants.
    • Drag added to landing gear
  • Improvements to flight plan editing:
    • When you are in the flight plan and the cursor is visible, you can now start entering a new waypoint by pressing one of the ARPT, FIX, NDB and VOR buttons -> the waypoint window will open and your chosen waypoint type will already be entered
    • this makes it faster to enter waypoints to the flight plan.
    • Waypoints can be deleted from the flight plan by pressing the BKSP button
    • If the very first waypoint in the flight plan (the one shown under "initial position") is a valid airport or navaid (i.e. not a latitude/longitude), you can select it with the FMS knob and edit it. However, due to the special role this waypoint plays, you can't delete it (use INIT instead to delete the whole flight plan).
    • Limited support for selecting SIDs, STARs and approaches. This requires "GNS430" navigation data installed in "Custom Data" directory. You can get GNS430 data from Navigraph or NavDataPro. It is important that the AIRAC cycles of the "GNS430" data and the X-Plane 11 data match -- procedures will NOT load correctly if your X-Plane 11 data are from a different AIRAC cycle than the "GNS430" data. The support is limited: only FIXes, VORs and NDBs are supported, any other waypoint types will be skipped. Also, the user interface for selecting procedures is not realistic; it just presents all procedures in simple lists.
    • A page menu for the flight plan allows to delete or reverse the flight plan
  • Improvements to the moving map:
    • The map shown during flight plan creation is now using X-Plane's "plan" mode, so you can browse through the flight plan and get an overview of the
    • complete plan (the selected waypoint of the plan will be in the center). Note that, due to X-Plane's map limitations, icons are only shown within
    • X-Plane's loaded scenery range.
    • The map shown when a "nearest airports/navaids" window is open has been decluttered, to give more focus to the airports/navaids (the compass rose,
    • heading bug and the red course line are hidden is this view now)
    • Changed map declutter function levels: Level 1 hides fixes/intersections; level 2 also hides NDBs; level 3 also hides VOR/DMEs; level 4 hides everything.
    • The navigation map has, in normal view, now bigger icons and texts. Due to technical reasons (... the big icons are sort of a "trick") and for a
    • better overview, the map shown during flight plan creation has the old smaller icons.
  • Improvements to the PFD:
    • The attitude indicator has been re-done from scratch, for realistic scaling; this is esp. important for the roll scale, which is now much more precise
    • The speed tape, the altitude tape and the VVI are now custom-made, for a more realistic look and better readability
  • Improvements to the electrical system:
    • Electrical load of individual systems adjusted
    • PFD and MFD are now on separate electrical busses
  • Four new liveries, one created on request
  • Includes the new vFlyteAir Pre-Flight and Weight & Balance menus
  • Added some little details for immersion:
    • Sounds are now all using X-Plane 11's new FMOD sound engine; we added sounds to keypad buttons, autopilot buttons and FMS knob, for better feedback when entering flight plans. For immersion, the A/C blower now has sound, as well as the avionics fan and gyro.
    • The cursor on the MFD is now blinking in the flight plan, waypoint window and procedures window
    • The starter key/keyfob now vibrates when the engine is running and the aircraft moving
    • Depending on current weight, co-pilot and passengers are shown (you can select to hide them while in cockpit view)
    • The rain textures on the windshield look better now
Bug Fixes
  • G1000 bug fixes:
    • the navaid search during manual waypoint input was meant to return the NEAREST waypoint in relation to your current location, based on the assumption that you enter your flight plan at your departure airport, and based on the range of the Cirrus SR20. This was meant as an easy solution for coping with duplicate navaid identifiers. For example, when you are at LFBZ airport and enter the "B" NDB, you want Bilbao, not some NDB over 800 nm away from your position. However, this did not always work as expected. Instead of finding the nearest navaid of the given ID, it sometimes returned the first of that name in the database. As a side effect of this fix, waypoint input is now a bit faster
    • Navaids with 1-letter designators (such as the Bilbao NDB "B") could not be entered
    • it was possible to hide the flight plan window while the waypoint window was still open
    • selecting a direct-to from the "Nearest airports/navaids" window did not fill correctly the "EnteredID" dataref (it still worked, though)
    • the map options softkeys on PFD and MFD were not clearly indicating if TRAFFIC and PRECIP information are ON or OFF (the softkey shadings were missing)
    • the PFD's pitch needle's calibration was too low, indicating about 1° less pitch than actual pitch
    • the PFD's pitch needle and the backup horizons pitch needle were not independent from each other
  • Rewrote autopilot button's logic to fix several issues:
    • The autopilot LVL mode did only level the wings; now it also sets pitch to 0° and vertical speed to 0 fpm.
    • Corrected the behavior of the "IAS" button on the Autopilot Panel. The Autopilot now maintains the selected airspeed, and adjusts pitch accordingly.
    • Fixed several indicator lamps not working correctly on Autopilot panel and on Audio Panel
  • General avionics bug fixes:
    • Transponder mode was undefined after loading the aircraft; now it will start in STBY mode when avionics are switched on
    • MIC1 and MIC2 buttons on Audio Panel were not working correctly - now use the correct X-Plane datarefs
    • the "Oxygen Required" indicator lamp was LIT when indicated altitude was below zero feet (wrong BARO pressure)
    • the Oil Temp Gauge on MFD Engine Page was showing wrong value on digits, but indicator was okay
  • Sound bug fixes:
    • Fixed ADF sounds not playing even though a correct ADF frequency was tuned
    • no avionics sound was audible when avionics were switched on
  • Other bug fixes:
    • Backwards movement of aileron trim indicators fixed
    • Yokes now move forward with down trim, and move aft with up trim - pilot side UP and DN labels now correct
    • Fixed wrong solid grey layer in ice and rain windshield textures
    • there were many obsolete 3D object duplicates at the keypad in the 3D cockpit
    • Fixed sun visors (they had remains of the old static reflection textures)
    • An extra pitch wheel on the Autopilot panel was showing under certain conditions
    • Removed the KILL datarefs from certain objects, to allow X-Plane 11's icon generator work correctly
    • the XP11 beta patch was missing some PBR effects on glass objects
