FSX Certified

North American's Classic, Iconic Aeroplane; The P-51D Mustang has been brought to life in a new and unique series of sets for FSX.

Using original North American plans and blueprints and working from thousands of photographs and sketches incorporating three years of extensive research and development. This is THE enthusiasts definitive version that many have long been waiting for brought to life with all the loving care and stunning attention to detail our studios are becoming renowned for.

We will roll out a wide selection of P-51D variants in packs of seven, with many differing versions / cockpit configurations and for the first time, up-to-date, restored examples look as they do today, with modern Features, avionics, removable gun sights, different propeller configurations and in some cases, even working, rear cockpit controls! So accurate is our cockpit that a contact at the Chanute Air Museum said P-51 restorers should use our cockpit to work from for restorations

The P-51D Cadillac of the Skies Series of Sets features many Mustang types never before modeled in Flight Simulator X. The NACA version was used for high-speed flight testing of various aerofoil types and features, quite surprisingly, a Mach Meter! This version of the P-51 is probably the only type that can lay claim to this fitting. As can be seen in the image, the two-seat configuration of many modern P-51Ds has also been modeled in exceptionally fine detail (the front seat can be tilted forward to ease access for the excited passenger)!

P-51K 'Fragile But Agile' is one of the earliest-model P-51D/K's flying. Being a K-10 she does not have the rocket-stub, capable wing that was introduced in late D-20 production and features an early-design arrangement of access panels on the bottom engine cowls; slightly different than the D-20 P-51K. 'Fragile' has been the subject of some very heated discussion regarding it's authenticity and previous guise as 'Twilight Tear' - thought to be an ex 78th Fighter Group aircraft, it is in fact a genuine Pacific Veteran!

Our model signifies something of a debut in FSX since it is the first time a K model has been reproduced. It features the authentic Aeroproducts Propeller which was later abandoned in favor of the Hamilton, Standard, flat-tipped blades.

Also featured in the first collection of the series is a photographic reconnaissance version of F-6D 'Lil' Margaret' with a fuselage-mounted K24 camera. This restored example quite literally shines as per its real counterpart, with a mirror like finish - the winner of the Grand Champion Warbird Award at Oshkosh in 1993. Below the wings a bevy of rocket pylons can be seen (in this case without fire-enabled rockets but we hope to feature firing rockets in later production models).

Part 1 features 7 individual P-51 aircraft (not repaints, actual modeled variants), that can be flown in FSX. These are the most perfect examples of one of the most attractive, successful and iconic fighters ever produced.

The floor gauges, as per the real aeroplane, are not easily visible unless you lean forward and peer over the edge of the seat. Aeroproducts and 2 different Hamilton Standard Propellers are modeled. The earlier cuffed Hamilton Standard blades, were then replaced with the Aeroproducts type, which where in turn succeeded by the return to Hamilton Standard blades of the flat tip variety! This provides an example on the attention to detail afforded to this version and no expense has been spared to get every part 100% right.

The Aeroproducts propeller as well as being a very different shape and profile is also seated further forward on the spinner mounting as shown above.

Extremely accurately modeled Laminar Flow wing. In the illustration the thickest part of the aerofoil section is at approx 60% from the leading edge. Several aircraft employed this unusual shaped wing section, including the Douglas A-26 Invader and the Bell P-63.

There are different seat configurations modeled. A Schick-Johnson manufactured seat, its size and placement in the cockpit is exact - from various photos from the cockpit of Happy Jack's Go Buggy and other research, matches perfectly. The two-seat versions have a modified Warren-McArthur manufactured seat, which is narrower both horizontally and longitudinally to the Schick-Johnson type. These types of seats are required in the stock-fuselage, two-seat dual control types, as they allow enough room for rudder pedals for the rear seat. The illustration also shows the two seat NACA version with the front seat tilted forward.
